We love our volunteers! They're an incredible group of people who help us achieve our primary purpose: facilitating the Market in order to provide access to healthy food, support local producers and small farms, and to enhance downtown Waltham. Each week, their enthusiasm and can-do attitude make the Market a community resource.
General Help
General help includes setting up or taking down tables and signs, and any other tasks asked by the market manager. The morning shift also includes tasks that do not require lifting:
- Directing vendors to their spot
- Managing the entrance to the market
- Reminding early shoppers that the market opens at 9:30
The Thursday night before the market, signs are put out to remind folks not to park in the market lot on Friday nights.
SNAP volunteer
SNAP assistance includes and is not limited to: running SNAP transactions, issuing tokens, answering shopper questions, or filling in for the SNAP Coordinator should they need to step away briefly. The afternoon shift also typically includes picking up tokens from vendors and bringing vendors their receipts.
Volunteers should be able to sit for several hours outside. If there are mobility concerns, we can accommodate.
Please note, to sign up for SNAP you must attend the certified training for new and returning volunteers (time estimate: 45-60 minutes). Please email SNAP@walthamfarmersmarketorg to schedule your training.
We'd love to include you in our volunteer pool, even if it's just a few Saturdays. Let us know in your email your particular skills or interests in volunteering. Thanks in advance for considering volunteering at the WFM.
